NHL Power Rankings: Where Do All 32 Teams Stand Entering Week 10?
This is Andy’s latest assessment of all 32 NHL teams as Week 10 of the 2025 season arrives. Where does each club land in our current power rankings after Week 9's results?
With the holiday lull looming and the playoff picture starting to take shape, the rankings shift as teams jockey for position. New Jersey’s slide is the biggest story this week, dropping four straight, while the New York Islanders surged with a string of impressive wins, climbing in the Eastern Conference.
All team records and statistics cited here are current through Monday, December 8. Curious who rose or fell most this week? Here’s the full breakdown.
No. 32 – Vancouver Canucks
A new occupant sits at the bottom. After dropping their final two games of Week 9 to the Avalanche and the Kraken-like Mammoth, the Canucks’ slide continued into Week 9. They did shock the Wild on Saturday, but the overall trajectory is negative, signaling a potential rebuild path on the horizon.
Given their position in the standings, Vancouver could entertain inquiries about superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes ahead of the trade deadline. They’ve won only three of the last ten and begin Week 10 with a goal differential of -19.
No. 31 – Calgary Flames
Calgary opened Week 9 with a 5-1 loss to Nashville, then rebounded to win the next two, improving to 11-15-4 on the season. They upset the surging Minnesota Wild (4-1) on Thursday and followed with a 2-0 win over the Mammoth on Saturday.
In the victory over the Wild, 23-year-old winger Matthew Coronato ended a four-game point drought, scoring and adding an assist. Across 22 games this season, he’s produced 16 points (nine goals) and has been a bright spot for the offense.
No. 30 – Nashville Predators
The Predators opened strong with two solid victories, climbing off the bottom rung of the rankings. They beat the Flames (5-2) on Tuesday and then took the Panthers to overtime, winning 2-1 in Florida.
Their run ended with a regulation loss to the Hurricanes on Saturday. With the fewest points in the league, Nashville has shown progress lately, going 5-5 over their last 10 games, which earns them the No. 30 spot for Week 10.
No. 29 – Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo kicked off Week 10 with a shootout win over Minnesota, then cruised to a 5-1 rout of Winnipeg on Monday, led by Josh Norris with two goals. The road trip, however, started rough with a loss in Philadelphia and another defeat to Winnipeg in Western Canada.
Week 10 opens with four westward games before returning home on December 18. They sit at 11-13-4 with 26 points, the lowest total in the Eastern Conference.
No. 28 – St. Louis Blues
The Blues moved up slightly last week but regressed to begin Week 9, dropping their first two games in regulation to Anaheim and Boston. They rebounded over the weekend, beating Ottawa and Montreal.
Over the past ten games, St. Louis has gone 5-3-2, showing signs of life as Week 10 starts with an 11-12-7 record overall.
No. 27 – Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago managed only one win last week and struggled in Week 9. They were shut out by Vegas 0-3, beat Los Angeles 2-1 on Thursday, then were crushed by the Kings 0-6 on Saturday and by the Ducks 1-7 on Sunday.
Their last ten games run 2-6-2, with a troubling goal differential of -12, which continues to sink their standing.
No. 26 – Winnipeg Jets
The Jets had a busy four-game slate but didn’t gain ground in the rankings. They lost the first two games, earned a point in a shootout loss to Montreal, beat Buffalo on Friday, and then fell 2-6 to Edmonton on Saturday.
Winnipeg has gone 3-6-1 in the last 10. With Connor Hellebuyck out and Eric Comrie struggling (rough recent numbers), the club is still searching for its early-season form.
No. 25 – Seattle Kraken
Seattle experiences a notable drop after Week 9, extending a three-game skid into Week 10 with regulation losses in both games. A 9-4 loss to Edmonton followed by a 4-3 defeat to Detroit highlights scoring struggles, as Seattle still hasn’t reached 70 goals on the season—the lone team without that milestone—and their five-game slide is among the league’s worst.
No. 24 – Ottawa Senators
Ottawa’s week was mixed. A strong 5-2 win over Montreal gave way to losses to the Rangers and Blues, slipping back in the standings. Brady Tkachuk returned from injury with immediate impact, producing four points, 21 shots on goal, and 16 hits in his first five games back.
No. 23 – Florida Panthers
Florida opened Week 9 with a couple of losses (4-1 to Toronto, 2-1 in overtime to Nashville). They recovered with two wins on the weekend, including a 7-6 shootout-style win over Columbus and a 4-1 loss to the Islanders—the latter a matchup with one of the league’s hottest teams at the time.
Despite injuries, Florida sits at 14-12-2 and remains a talented squad capable of a late push. Carter Verhaeghe enters Week 10 on a three-game goal streak, contributing four goals in that span and providing a significant scoring boost.
No. 22 – Utah Mammoth
Utah posted a 2-2 record for the week. They opened with a loss to San Jose, then hammered Anaheim 7-0 and followed with a 4-1 win over Vancouver before ending with a 0-2 loss to Calgary.
Over the last 10 games, the Mammoth are 4-6, with an overall mark of 14-13-3. Their offense has been strong, scoring 91 goals this season, placing them in the league’s top-10 for offense.
No. 21 – Toronto Maple Leafs
Toronto found momentum late in the week, routing Pittsburgh 7-2 and then winning the first two games of Week 9 before a shootout loss to close out the period. Victories against Florida and Carolina helped their standing, leaving them at 13-11-4 overall.
Auston Matthews has been part of the turnaround, recording two goals and three assists in his last five games.
No. 20 – San Jose Sharks
San Jose started Week 9 with a 6-3 win over Utah but then dropped two straight to Washington and Dallas. They bounced back with a 4-1 win over Carolina on Sunday, led by Macklin Celebrini, who posted three points in that upset. Celebrini stands at 43 points through 30 games entering Week 10.
No. 19 – Detroit Red Wings
Detroit began the week on a four-game skid but recovered with a 5-4 win over Boston and a shootout point against Columbus. They closed with a 4-3 win over Seattle. Their recent rough stretch is a concern, but the team remains in the Eastern mix. Week 10 features a road-heavy slate, starting with Vancouver.
No. 18 – Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus continued to collect points, turning Week 9 around after an overtime skid. They beat New Jersey and Detroit, then earned a point in an overtime loss to Florida, before dropping a 2-0 decision to Washington to end the week.
Zach Werenski’s five-game point streak (two goals, seven assists) highlighted the stretch.
No. 17 – Edmonton Oilers
Edmonton opened with a tight 1-0 loss to Minnesota’s Jesper Wallstedt, then surged with a 9-4 win over Seattle and a 6-1 demolition of Winnipeg. Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid combined for 12 points in those wins, signaling the high-end potential of this roster.
No. 16 – Montreal Canadiens
Montreal started Week 9 with a 5-2 defeat to Ottawa, then earned four of six points in their next two games against Winnipeg and Toronto, before dropping a 4-3 home loss to St. Louis. Their -7 goal differential remains a concern, and goaltending has been a rough patch lately.
Montembeault (3.86 GAA in six games) and Dobes (3.40 GAA in four) have struggled, masking some positives from momentum and depth play.
No. 15 – Los Angeles Kings
Los Angeles opened with two losses but finished Week 9 strong with a decisive 6-0 win over Chicago. They sit 13-8-7 overall, +1 goal differential, and third in the Pacific.
Road performance has been a strong suit, posting a 9-2-4 record away from home. Kevin Fiala has gone cold, with just one goal in the last ten, even as the team searches for more balanced scoring.
No. 14 – New York Rangers
New York climbed in last week’s rankings and kept climbing. After a regulatory loss to Tampa Bay, the Rangers captured two straight wins, beating Dallas in overtime and Ottawa in regulation. A Tuesday overtime win against Colorado and a Sunday OT loss to Vegas kept them hovering near the fringe of the playoff picture in the East.
The Mike Sullivan system is taking hold in New York.
No. 13 – Boston Bruins
Boston kicked off Week 9 with a 5-4 loss to Detroit, then rebounded to earn 4 points in the next two games, including a 5-2 win over St. Louis and a 4-1 victory over New Jersey. Morgan Geekie has been the standout scorer lately, tallying 10 goals and four assists over his past nine games, fueling the offense.
No. 12 – New Jersey Devils
New Jersey closed Week 9 on a brutal note, losing all four games in regulation and tumbling down the standings. With Jack Hughes sidelined by a wrist injury, the offense stalled, and Jakob Markström’s 3.32 GAA over six games hasn’t helped.
Despite the rough stretch, the Devils remain positioned in the upper half of the standings, but another tough week could push them further down.
No. 11 – Philadelphia Flyers
Philadelphia’s Week 9 featured a three-game winning streak that paused with a regulation loss to the Penguins, followed by a win over Buffalo and a 3-2 loss to Colorado. At 15-9-3, they’ve been a surprising success story in the first half and sit near the top of the Metro.
No. 10 – Tampa Bay Lightning
After a strong rise last week, Tampa Bay slipped, dropping all three Week 9 games in regulation. The set included losses to the Islanders and Penguins, but the team remains near the top of the Eastern Conference with a 16-10-2 mark and a +15 goal differential.
Week 10 opens with a test against Toronto, and a quick rebound would help stabilize their position.
No. 9 – Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh rebounded nicely after a rough finish to Week 8, driving wins over Philadelphia and Tampa Bay to start Week 9, led by Crosby and Malkin. A Sunday shootout loss to Dallas ended the streak, but Tristan Jarry has delivered elite play since returning from injury, posting a 2.47 GAA and .915 save percentage over six outings. If Jarry returns to peak form, Pittsburgh remains a legitimate playoff threat.
No. 8 – Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas recovered from a rough patch by starting Week 9 with a win over Chicago, followed by a 3-0 shutout of New Jersey and a victory over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The four-game winning run vaulted them to a strong standing, despite earlier slip-ups, sitting at 14-6-8 and sixth-best in the league.
No. 7 – New York Islanders
The Islanders delivered several marquee wins, establishing themselves as a true contender in the East. A 2-1 win over Tampa Bay, followed by a shutout of the Lightning in Tampa and a decisive victory over Colorado, energized the club. A Sunday loss to Florida paused the momentum, but at 16-11-3, they sit high in the Metro standings. Their ability to beat top teams has boosted their ranking significantly.
No. 6 – Minnesota Wild
Minnesota opened Week 9 with a 1-0 victory over the Oilers but closed with two disappointing losses to lesser-matched opponents. A 4-1 loss to Calgary and a 4-2 defeat to Vancouver dropped the momentum. Still, the Wild have been consistently strong, posting a 7-2-1 mark over the last ten and entering Week 10 with a solid overall record. Andrei Wallstedt has been a breakout star, posting a 1.95 GAA and .936 save percentage, cementing himself as a legitimate Vezina candidate.
No. 5 – Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim began Week 9 with a 4-1 win over St. Louis, highlighted by Leo Carlsson’s 14th goal and 36th point of the season. A startling 7-0 loss to Washington midweek cooled the mood, but the Ducks bounced back with a shootout win against the Capitals on Friday and a resounding 7-1 home victory over Chicago on Sunday. They sit with 37 points, the fourth-most in the league, entering Week 10.
No. 4 – Carolina Hurricanes
Carolina opened Week 9 with a surprising 5-1 loss to Toronto, then responded with a 6-2 win over Nashville, only to drop a 4-1 decision to San Jose at home on Sunday. They stand 17-9-2, second in the Metro and second in the East behind Washington, despite a softer 5-4-1 stretch in their last 10 games.
No. 3 – Washington Capitals
Washington has been one of the league’s biggest risers, continuing to resemble their 2024 form. They started Week 9 with victories over the Kings and Sharks, and then earned a 2-0 win over the Blue Jackets after a brief hiccup against Anaheim. At 8-1-1 in their last 10, they’ve established themselves as the East’s top team. Goaltender Logan Thompson has been outstanding with a .925 save percentage and a 1.96 GAA over 28 appearances.
No. 2 – Dallas Stars
Dallas saw their four-game win streak briefly interrupted by an overtime loss to the Rangers, but rebounded to beat the Senators and Sharks in regulation and to defeat Pittsburgh in a shootout on Sunday. Wyatt Johnston has been a standout, tallying five goals and eight assists in his last eight games and on pace for a point-per-game season.
No. 1 – Colorado Avalanche
The usual suspects top this list. Colorado remained at No. 1, posting six points from four games with one regulation loss (to the Islanders). Nathan MacKinnon has been on a tear, with seven goals and five assists across his last six appearances, underscoring why the Avalanche have shown no signs of slipping from the pinnacle.
