Get ready for a musical journey with Villanelle, a UK trio that's bringing back the rock!
The Hangover Anthem
Villanelle's latest single, 'Measly Means', is a grunge-infused alt-rock masterpiece inspired by the iconic Smashing Pumpkins. But here's where it gets interesting - the song is all about hangovers! Yes, you heard that right. The band captures the unique blend of nonchalant grunge vibes with fierce riffs and powerful basslines, creating an anthem for those post-party blues.
A Labor of Love
Frontman Gene Gallagher shares, "'Measly Means' took ages to perfect. At first, it felt too light and lovey, but when Ben added those Smashing Pumpkins-inspired bends and sustains, it clicked! Like our previous track 'Hinge', the lyrics were penned when I was just 14. It's a hangover theme that keeps coming back.
Bassist Jack Schiavo adds, "The lyrics flow like a rap, almost. Gene brought this song to a rehearsal in 2023, and the riff is so Beatles-esque. We worked hard on it, and it just keeps building.
The Upcoming EP
Produced by James Neville at Teeth Studios, the band's debut EP is set to drop in 2025. While we await more details, one thing's for sure - it's going to be a rockin' ride! The group has already sold out their launch show and is gearing up for an underplay headline tour and a stint with Miles Kane in the new year.
A Rock Revival
In an interview with NME, guitarist Ben Taylor revealed the band's mission: "It's about bringing rock music back with genuine passion and drive. Bands have been in the culture, but we want to revive the indie rock scene and bring something fresh.
And this is the part most people miss - Villanelle isn't just about the music. It's a movement, a revival of rock, and a chance to experience the raw, unfiltered energy of live performances.
